Humane Ai Pin

Discontinued Product Last verified 2026-09-13

A $700 screenless AI wearable that answered questions through Humane's cloud. Eleven months after it began shipping, owners were told the device would stop connecting to those servers.

Original intent · 初衷

Humane's own product page described the Ai Pin as 'your intelligent, voice-powered wearable companion — keeping you connected and in the moment with just a touch', answering questions through its operating system CosmOS rather than through a screen. The bet was on voice and ambient computing as the interface, with the assistant itself running in Humane's cloud rather than on the device.

What happened · 后来发生了什么

Humane announced the Ai Pin in late 2023 and began shipping it in April 2024. On 18 February 2025 HP announced a definitive agreement to acquire key AI capabilities from Humane — the Cosmos platform, engineering talent and more than 300 patents — with that team forming HP IQ. In its customer notice, Humane said it was 'winding down the consumer Ai Pin' effective immediately and that new purchases were discontinued. The device kept working until 12pm PST on 28 February 2025; after that it no longer connected to Humane's servers, .Center was fully retired, and calling, messaging, AI queries/responses and cloud access were removed. Owners were told to download their pictures, videos and notes before the deadline; the remaining consumer data was permanently deleted at the same moment.

Why it stopped · 停止原因

Humane's notice gives the reason as 'our business priorities have shifted' and does not elaborate. HP's release describes buying a platform, a team and a patent portfolio for $116 million, and does not address the Ai Pin's fate. No party published a fuller explanation of why the consumer product ended, so this entry does not supply one.

Curator analysis

Editor's reading: because the removed capabilities were the ones that depended on Humane's servers, what ended on 28 February was the service the hardware was built around. The device remained in owners' hands, but its AI functions did not survive the company's change of direction.

Fact

Humane's customer notice states that the company is winding down the consumer Ai Pin and that the device would stop connecting to its servers at 12pm PST on 28 February 2025.

Fact

HP's announcement covers the Cosmos platform, the engineering team and more than 300 patents; it does not say that the Ai Pin product is being discontinued, and it describes the acquisition as accelerating HP's own AI work.

Fact

The only reason on record is the company's one-line reference to shifted business priorities; this entry therefore leaves the cause at that level rather than substituting a market explanation.

The notice is precise about what stops being possible rather than about hardware, and that is the lesson: the Pin did not wear out, it lost its server connection, and the capabilities removed one by one — calling, messaging, AI queries, cloud access — were exactly the product. An AI device whose intelligence lives only in the vendor's cloud has an expiry date set by the vendor's business rather than by the buyer's device. The wind-down itself is also worth recording as a practice: an explicit data-export window and a deletion timestamp, stated in advance. What this case does not show is a verdict on wearable AI, because Humane never published usage or revenue figures; what is documented is a business decision, not proof that the category failed.

If someone tried again · 重做问题

The assistant could only work through Humane's servers. If the same voice-first experience had shipped as phone software first, or with an on-device mode that outlived the company, would the team have learned whether people wanted it before committing to a $700 device?
